Difference Between APYC and APYN in F0902?

Does anyone know the difference between the APYC (Balance Forward) and APYN (Prior Year NET Postings) fields in F0902?

To my knowledge they should be the same, but if so I don't know why there are 2 fields.

I have always used APYC to determine balances, but I notice that the Account Balance By Month (P09213) uses APYN as the Opening Balance.

I am doing some tests since for some reason we have several accounts with non-zero closing balances in 2007 but no balance records for 2008. I can understand the other way around, if there are new accounts, but not missing ones.

Thanks in advance.

The APYC Balance Forward field represents the net postings from ALL
PRIOR YEARS. For balance sheet accounts (determined by AAIs), this
field is combined with the Jan, Feb, Mar, etc. fields to get the YTD
balance. For revenue and expense accounts this field is not used in
determing the YTD balances.

The APYN Prior year Net Postings is the net posting JUST FROM THE PRIOR
YEAR (not including all years, just the past year).

I base the above on a simple look at our data, but it appears to be
correct.

Thanks Gerry,

Sorry for the late reply, I got sidetracked onto another critical task, still back trying to resolve my problem with a Trial Balance.

It looks like they are using the APYN for some accounts like Retained Earnings in the TB, I was not aware that I had to take both fields into account.

I think the problem may be resolved.
Thanks also to Colin Hugill who responded directly to me.
