E9.2 Void a closed deduction

Need to void a payment which produced a deduction that is now closed. Can I reopen the deduction so it can be voided so I can then void the check? (I am not a JDE Finance expert - just going with what I'm being asked to do. Can I just change the status flag on F03B40 on deduction?)
