Using 9.0 to Read XE Data

Hi All

We are migrating from XE (SP 24.12 Rev 3) to 9.0 (8.98.42 Toolset), used a phased approach. One of the options we are considering is migrating A/R completely, but rolling out Sales Order Processing by Branch/District.

One of the challenges to this is that some of our 9.0 A/R Processes will need to read (not write) data from our XE Sales Tables until a District (e.g. A) is migrated to 9.0. Once District A is migrated to 9.0, we would then want 9.0 A/R Processes to read data from 9.0 Sales Table for District A, but continue to read data from XE for the remaining Districts that remain in XE. Has anyone encountered similar challenges and how did they resolve this?

Other approaches that we are considering:

1. Interfacing Sales Data to 9.0 to support the A/R Process that need this data. Ideally would not like to do this, and just have 9.0 read the data directly from XE.


2. Migrating Sales and AR by District. So when we bring District A into 9.0 we would also bring over the associaed A/R for District A into 9.0. The downfall of this is that A/R would have to be worked across both XE and 9.0 for a period of time.

Any thoughts/guidance on what has worked well for you in the past is appreciated, including any tools, e.g. Business Services, that you may have used as well.

You might reach out to Tony Brackett with The iConsortium, regarding a tool they created for Phased Implementations.

I believe their tool was initially designed for migrating 'companies at a time' - but, it may have been further enhanced.
