Hello All,
We are currently in E1 811 with SQL 2008 and planning to bring to 9.0 with the tools release we have already downloaded prior to terminating oracle support.

We don't do many customizations but we do have about 10 to 15 custom build programs we have been using for a while.

We thought about about below 2 options;

1. Do fresh Installation to New VM environment and do the data migration alone with custom program migration
2. Replicate the current environment in new VM and then do the upgrade to 9.0

What are your recommendations?

Do you have any references or resources you can recommend for this process so we can get help?

Thanks,
Clarence

I'd personally go for option 1. Installing a fresh 9.0 with the most current certified OS, Middleware etc. and then bring your Deployment Server and Database, do the upgrade and do your retrofitting - all in parallel to your running PD811. You probably won't find too many resources on this anymore, but you can definetly check docs.oracle.com and their archives.

Just out of interestet, why did you settle with 9.0?

Thanks for your input on this. Yes we have to stick to 9.0 since we are out of Oracle support and with the tools release we have we can go only up to 9.0.

Hello Clarence,

Based on the details you provided, both options have their merits, and the choice would depend on your specific requirements and preferences.

Option 1, a fresh installation to a new VM environment with data migration and custom program migration, can be a clean and efficient approach. It allows for a fresh start and ensures that only essential data and custom programs are migrated, minimizing potential issues.

Option 2, replicating the current environment in a new VM and then upgrading to 9.0, may offer a smoother transition as it maintains the familiarity of your existing setup. This can be beneficial if you want to minimize disruption and have a step-by-step upgrade process.

Considering your 10 to 15 custom-built programs, it's crucial to ensure their seamless migration to the new environment. To assist you in this process, I recommend exploring the services offered by ephlux.com. They specialize in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions, including JD Edwards, and can provide expertise in E1 9.0 upgrades.
