Upgrading of existing JD Edward World A7.3 Cum 4 to either A9.1 or OneWorld

Hi,

I am new to the forum and need some help from JDE experts here, below are my case,

1) I have 6 different instances running in 6 different countries on the same version but with different languages

2) All the 6 instances are running on one server, the hardware is IBM AS/400 ISeries, Model I5 570

3) The average JDE users are approx 180 users in each countries.

Below are my queries,
1) What will be the upgrade options available if I want to upgrade only to OneWorld rather than E1?

2) What are the minimum hardware requirements that I need for the upgrade? Are all the existing hardware no longer useable?

3) What are the approx hardware cost, license costs, upgrade cost, data migration cost, consultant cost etc?

4) What are the new functionality available in OneWorld that is not available in World A7.3?

5) Are there additional costs for those new functionality?

6) I am looking to consolidate all the 6 instances into a single instance with either multiple company codes or multiple chart of accounts, which option is better and why,
a) will it be better to upgrade 1 instance to OneWorld first before migrating the remaining 5 instances data into the upgraded one or
b) you migrate all the 5 instances into a single instance then perform the upgrade

7) What is the approx timeframe for the upgrade?

8) Are there any white papers, documentation, manual etc on those items that I mention above

Really appreciate all the JDE experts help here. Thanks

Gunners1,

I think the best thing for you to do is to give Oracle a call and ask
these questions to them. I believe the best thing for you to do is to
upgrade to A9.1. We upgraded from A7.3 Cume14 last year. We are a
heavily modified shop, with offices in Canada, UK, Belgium and of course
the USA. We installed A9.1 in March 2007 and went live with it over
Labor Day weekend 2007. Our users did not even know it was successful,
it was so seamless. I have answered some of your questions, see BELOW
in BLUE.

Re: RE: Upgrading of existing JD Edward World A7.3 Cum 4 to either A9.1 or OneWorld

Just a quick query on your own upgrade thru to cum14 and then A9.1 - we're on cum 10 and are currently evaluating whether to go cum 16 or be brave and dive into 9.1 - would going to 9.1 be a one or a two step jump from cum 10? Can we go straight to A9.1? We do have some integration issues with a POS system to consider as well so there's some natural caution in going straight to 9.1 but if the task is of similar proportions to moving to cum 16 (which is well overdue) I'd certainly like to push for the latest and greatest.

RE: RE: Upgrading of existing JD Edward World A7.3 Cum 4 to either A9.1 or OneWorld

My understanding is that upgrades from any release of A7.3 or A8.1 to
A9.1 is a pretty easy process. In any upgrade there is still the Step
one process and then Step two, but A9.1 was the easiest upgrade I have
ever done. I do believe that going to A9.1 is the best choice for any
company to do and Oracle support has been and will be great help to you.
