How To Stop Sales Spike From Allocating Stock

Has anybody developed/ or using standard E1 to deal with sales spikes at sales order entry time. We have situations here for example where we sell Part number A at an average qty of 500 per month. Our DRP/MRP run will produce messages to keep this level of demand in stock. However we can get a sales order into our system for a quantity of 600 in one go. This order has the potential to wipe out all our stock of this part number. There is currently nothing in sales order entry to stop this order from being entered or even warn the operator. This is a major issue for us as we have laed times of up to three months for these part numbers.
We have a large number of part numbers so i dont think preferences can be used (easily).
Any suggestions?

We are using E1 8.12 with tools release 8.96.1.4 on I-Series.

We have the same issue. We wrote a custom UBE to compare order qty to ROP's and if they were greater than a certain percentage the program will put the order on admin hold. This basically stops the order until someone manually releases it
