Form control mode

When you right click on a form control, a popup menu window shows up and the second item on the list is "Modes...". when it is selected, a window displays Mode1, Mode2, Mode3. each has option of enabled and hidden.
Could some1 please explain what these modes are and how to use them ....

Mode 1 is used for Fat Clients and Mode 3 is used for web clients. If you
want the form appearance to be different for fat versus portal you can make
the changes to the form in Mode3 so that those changes appear only on the
web. Hope this helps.
