EDI 856\'s - Advanced Shipping Notices through Gentran

We are able to build the ASN for Gentran to pick up, but how does JDE know that Gentran has processed this document? Is there an API being used possibly? We are thinking about writing a program that updates the 47 files EDSP fields after Gentran picks up the records. Has anyone else worked through this?
