B7332 to XE Upgrade Path

Sorry...lets try that again...

Greetings all,

I am looking for tips on how to go about upgrading from B7332 SP11.3 to XE -
Update3 - SP17.1.

In an ideal world, I would like to be able to install XE for the CRP
environment and continue to use B7332 in PROD. I only have a DEPLOYMENT and
an ENTERPRISE server, not servers for testing.

Is this a possible configuration? I saw an earlier post out here saying that
XE uses a different install path than 7332 and taht I can use a different
Port Number for the ENTERPRISE box for XE to make my workstations hit XE in
CRP and B7332 in PROD.

If anyone has done this, please let me know.

Also, what is this JD12860 ESU? It looks like a patch for the PLANNER setup
and for applying future ESUs. Is this correct? If so, in what order should
all of these various components be applied?

I'll probably do SP17.1 to my B7332 install (I need some of the SP17.1 fixes
now) and then do the XE upgrade in another month or two.

Currently on B7332, SP11.3
Windows NT4.0 SP6a, MS-SQL

Hi there!

It's not so an ideal situation...
I've done several migrations from B732x/B733x to Xe the way you're
planning to.
Given the typical IT budget restrictions, it's not easy to convince
managers to buys lots of servers so we're forced to upgrade older
environments on the fly on the production boxes.
The DEV and CRP upgrade processes don't affect seriously PRD performance
(except when building Xe server packages and running Xe's LOADALL).
You starting installing Xe on the same Deployment than the previous
release and you upgrade an environment (in my case DEV733 to DV7333).
That first migration finishes having DV7333 on Xe, and CRP733 + PRD733
on B733x.
As a matter of fact, I've installed the Xe server on the same box
than B7321 or B733x and they don't interfere each other.
They run on different TCP ports (B7321 on 6003, B7331 on 6007,
B7332 on 6008 and Xe on 6009), different installation pathcodes and
different databases.
It's not necessary to hack port numbers on the workstations. You may
use the SNAPSHOT.EXE utility on your clients, it will let you have
both clients (Xe and previous release) on the same PC and switch from
one to the other with a mouse click.
It's a nice idea to install SP 17.1 (the same Xe will use) on B7332
before starting any migration. In case you face any trouble with B7332
PRD while still migrating to Xe, JDE will ask you to have a newer
SP level.
JD12860 is a Planner ESU, it basically replaces specs and sources
for the \b7333\planner directory, these changes enhance the JDEPLAN
environment by fixing bugs (such as TC, Table Conversions) and
adding new reports for the spec merge process.

Hi,

Standard JDE upgrade process, you upgrade DEV and CRP on the same Deployment Server and Entreprise Server has your B733.2 environment.

JD12860 is a special ESU that updates the specs for the Deployment and Planner Environment on the Deployment Server.

You do not have to upgrade to 17.1 for the upgrade process.
