linked server tips & tricks

Is anybody successfully using linked server to access unsupported (by JDE) dbs? I'd like to access a progress db, but I'm running into perfomance problems & also error messages which unfortunately don't say much. I'd really appreciate some help.

Is really nobody using this? That's hard to believe, especially because someone at jdelist initially told me about that possibility.
