Transp Mgmt - Load Routing & Costs

Good time of the day.

I have the following business case:
The company ships goods to various locations. The variability of demand is very high so that we cannot predict whether we need to ship fully loaded vehicles (shipment=load) to each warehouse or we need to combine several shipments into a load and make the vehicle go to the Warehouse 1 then to Warehouse 2 and then to Warehouse 3 etc. Because of this high demand variability our shipping routes also vary greatly. For instance, we can ship directly to Warehouse 1 (in case of high demand) or we can ship to Warehouse 2 and then to Warehouse 1 or we can ship to Warehouse 3 and then to Warehouse 1. The shipping costs of each route would be different, because they are based on the distance from initial origin to the final destination. For example, if we ship 20 pallets in one vehicle from our plant - 10 pallets to Warehouse 2 and then 10 to Warehouse 1 our shipping costs would be based on the distance from the plant to the Warehouse 1, the final destination.

The questions are:
1) How to set up different routes that would reflect all possible ways of transporting goods from the same Origin to the same Destination with various intermediate deliveries? Is changing the mode of transport the only way to do this? How to make the system provide all range of possible routes when routing the load. (P4960 Work with Loads, Routing Options)

2) How to calculate total shipping costs, based on the distance a vehicles goes from the initial Origin to the final Destination? As far as I understand I cannot use Shipment Rate Level, 'cause it will calculate the costs based on the distance gone by each shipment in a load, while I need basicly costs of shipping the last shipment in load. Are there any standard ways of doing this?

Software version: B7334

Thanx.

Cyberhawk,

1. Unfortunately, if you want to show multiple routing entries for the same
origin/destination (and I assume carrier) you do need to have different
MOT's.

2. I would think that it would use the distance on the Routing Entry and
apply it to the Load not the individual Shipments on the Load. Suggest that
you test this as I believe Shipment Level is ignored when Shipments are put
on a Load.

Hope this helps,

Craig Potter
