Subledgers and Financial AAIs

Are charts of accounts utilizes subledgers to collect product line information. We would like to assign product lines (subledgers) to transactions coming from deduction management in AR. Unfortunately, we cannot use subledgers with financial AAI and flex accounting does not work with financial AAIs. Has anyone else run across this and how have you figured it out?
