Announcing Rollback of Xe ESU Installation Enhancements to B73.3.2

You've spoken. We've listened. Now we're announcing the results!

We have created many new enhancements for the ESU process for OneWorldR Xe.
Because of the positive feedback that these enhancements have generated, we
are rolling back several of these enhancements to B73.3.2!

Here is a brief summary of the enhancements:

You asked for: A method to help reduce the amount of testing and
retrofitting of custom modifications.

We are providing: A new "net change" capability. With this new capability,
only objects that have been changed by J.D. Edwards since you last installed
an object will be merged. Furthermore, the spec merge report will show you
exactly which object(s) included in the ESU will be merged in your
environment.

You asked for: An easier method of retrofitting custom enhancements.

We are providing: A new tool called Visual Compare. This visual Event Rule
(ER) comparison and merge tool provides a side-by-side comparison of ER for
an object before and after the merge with "drag and drop" capability.

Note: This new tool is included with Service Pack 13 and higher.
Therefore, in order for B73.3.2 customers to have this functionality, you
must at least be on Service Pack 13.

You asked for: An easy way to determine what ESUs and ASUs have been
applied to your environment, and what SARs are included in the ESUs.

We are providing: A new application, Software Update History, which allows
you to determine which ESUs and ASUs have been installed on any of your path
codes. You will also be able to view a list of SARs contained in these ESUs
using this program.

You asked for: An easier way to build your packages.

We are providing: A new automatic package definition process! This will
eliminate the need for you to manually list the objects that need to be
included in your package.

You asked for: An easy way to "back out" ESUs.

We are providing: An automatic backup and restore capability.

You asked for: A new, less confusing naming convention.

We are providing: A new, next numbering-based naming convention. The new
numbering convention disassociates the ESU number from the SAR number.

How do you get these changes? These enhancements will be delivered both as
a downloadable ASU and as a CD that you can order. Targeted delivery date is
late November 2000. Watch for further announcements on the Knowledge
GardenR. In addition, further details are available through this link:

Ya, you need it if you are going to use Visual Compare (which by the way doesn't work so hot anyway).

If you are just trying to get a handle on the way out of control ESUs, you can be at any service pack you want.
