Pass data to external app through COM link

Hey list -

I know it's possible to interact with JDE through COM components generated using GenCOM. I'm wondering, is it possible to use COM components to go the other way - that is, is it possible to launch external apps through a COM link? I know you can use the system function "Run Executable" or the Business function B34A1030 (Execute External Program) to call external apps, but these just launch a program via the command line. Is there a way to call an external app, passing data through a COM link?
