ONEWORLD MAINTENANCE

We are in the process on doing our First yearly cleanup of our database. I'm
trying to figure out what tables are normally purged and or what programs
are use to purge them. And also trying to figure out whether or not its
better to use the JDE tools to rebuild indexes or use sql tools to do the
rebuild's. Does anybody have a standard set of instructions or procedures
that you use.

Purges!? JD Edwards OneWorld has purges!? Can someone point me to where these purge programs are? When I was working with World Software, which by the way wasn't very long, I was told there were no purges, so if OW has purges I would greatly appreciate someone pointing me to the general direction. THANKS!

I recommend you try any of the purge programs on a test database first. Some
of them delete records you do not specify to be deleted.

Ahhhh....the great table purges.....

There is a document on the Knowledge Garden on ALL Application Purges. I
don't remember the doc name but here's the path:
\Euro Base Currency Conversion\Development\Technical Documents\OneWorld
Technical Documents\Purge Process
If you can't find it I can send it to you. (It's 13 pages long and explains
what each purge does - It's Golden!)

You can also just search the database for purge programs. Go to OL or OMW or
UTB on the F9861. Search on Object Name (OBNM) = R*. Search on Description
(MD) = *Purge*. Unfortunately this way doesn't tell you what the purge does.

Also see document OTT-00-0033 - There a paragraph on purging the F83UI001 -
Drill down report performance.

Here are all the Technical Purge Programs (feel free to add to this list):

Check out log R9882000
Client Package Deployment Log Purge R98825E
Server Package Deployment Log Purge R98826E
Package History Purge R96225
Print Scheduled Jobs R91300A
Purge Scheduled Jobs R91300B
Purge Completed Tasks R01131P
Purge Completed Processes R98860P
Machine/Group Identification F00960 - Purge to remove old workstations
Purge Message Logs R01131P
Delete Jobs and associated PDF R9861101

Be careful with the application purges as they are often purge and
consolidate - ie. can't drill down to a previous years Journal Entries -
oops CLM (Career Limiting Move).

Re: RE: ONEWORLD MAINTENANCE

I think the reorganisation of the KG has shifted it around a bit. If you're having trouble finding it I eventually got it under:

Worldwide Topics\Euro Base Currency Conversion\Global Support Services\One World Knowledge Documents\Conversion Checklist

Nice document Colin, I think the word golden is an understatement.

Jeremey,

suggest you check out the thread "Purging PO Detail R4311P " in this forum (originally appeared mid December). My co-worker Don Sauve posted some useful information on the research he did on the general issue of purging/archiving within OneWorld.

Cheers,

Re: RE: ONEWORLD MAINTENANCE

I'm looking for the Purge document you mention here. The KG menu has really changed a lot. Does anyone know the document number for this, or what links to follow in the KG?

Thanks in advance.

Re: RE: ONEWORLD MAINTENANCE

Tim,
Did you ever find this purge document? I'd really like to see it.
If you have the number, could you post it?

Thanks,
Barry

Re: RE: ONEWORLD MAINTENANCE

Sorry Barry, I never did find it. The programs I've found to be useful for purges are:

R96225: Clear Package Build History
R98210B: Clear OMW Log

These, of course, have data selections so you can, for example, just clear build history for one package, or clear OMW logs before a particular date. There are sure to be others, but these have been pretty useful.

One cool thing, for instance, would be to clear out the "useless" OMW Log entries when you're investigating a problem. I mean, why do I have to know that an object is *ready* to be added to an OMW project? This, of course, would not be necessary if the advanced OME Log filtering actually worked, but I've not been able to get it to work (grrr).

Be careful, though! I went a bit overboard when I deleted my package build histories, and later wished that I had kept more. I'd say that it probably is a good idea to at least keep the history of the last build (or the last build and the last *good* build if a package fails to build) of each active package, especially fulls and updates. But I only ever use package build histories to redo builds or to investigate problems with builds. Someone out there surely uses them for something else.

Professional drivers on closed circuit, your mileage will vary.

RE: RE: ONEWORLD MAINTENANCE

Thanks for the response!

I'll keep looking. We need to purge data big time! Our SQL db has grown to over 100gig
and there is no end in site. F0911 has over 10 million rows. F4211 over 4 million.

If I find it, I'll post it.

Thanks,
Barry
