Lot Track/Trace - Component through Kit to Sales Order

We're gearing up to implement lot# tracking.
Its been noticed that KITS are not tracing to the Sales Order they are ship confirmed to.

I have a lot controlled kit, comprised of lot controlled finished goods,
comprised of lot controlled intermediate-mfg, comprised of lot controlled raw materials.

I create a sales order for the kit.
I create a work order to build the kit from the finished goods.
I create work orders to create the finished goods from intermediate manufactured itesm.
I create work orders to create the intermediate-mfgd items from the RMs.

I complete the work orders for the intermediate-mfgd items.
All lotted raw materials track/trace properly.
Cardex shows IMs of the raw materials to these work orders.

I complete the work orders for the finished goods.
I can now track/trace the raw materials to the intermediate, to the finished goods.
Cardex shows the intermediates issued to these work orders.

I complete the work order for the kit.
I can now see the raw matls, intermediates, FGs all the way to the kit.
Cardex shows the FGs issued to the kit.
So far, so good.

I then ship confirm the kit.
The track/trace works up to the kit, but doesn't show the kit issued to that sales order.
Cardex does NOT show the kit/sales order relationship.

Cardex DOES show the lotted FGs tied to the sales order that the kit was shipped on.

Another issue is that the KIT isn't being relieved from inventory,
however the components are.

To me, this feels like a setup and/or processing option SOMEPLACE, but I haven't found it.

Should I see the kit track/trace to the sales order?
Shouldn't the kit inventory be relieved by ship confirmation?\
Is this a "setup" issue someplace on the kit?

Please AND Thanks

Dumb luck strikes again!

I pressed "Help" (not F1) on the STOCKING TYPE field,
and read that the system does NOT maintain inventory for kits.

I changed the item from a "Kit" to a "M" (Mfg-assembly)
and things work as desired.
