Links Don\'t Work in Outlook 2007

JDEList,

I have recently had Microsoft Outlook upgraded to 2007. When this happened, the links in the subscription emails from JDEList posts do not work. The problem is obviously with Outlook 2007, as the links were working fine prior to the upgrade.

Does anyone have any idea as to the cause and hopefully, a fix?

The actual link in the email source is complete, but the address used when I click the link is incomplete.

I have been following up this with our systems guys. This information is probably known by a lot of JDEList members, but here goes: With Outlook 2007, the engine for rendering html emails was changed from Internet Explorer to Word. This was apparently done for uniformity, as Outlook uses the Word html engine to compose html emails. However the result has been, as one commentator said, a 5 year step backward. There are apparently major problems with tables apart from the most basic tables.

Getting back to my experience with the links in the JDEList emails, which I had elected to receive as html (since this problem emerged, I have changed this to text to see if that is any better), the problem is that the Word html engine does not recognise the double inverted commas character (") within the URL and truncates the URL at the first occurrence. Thus the difference demonstarted in my first email.

Our systems guys have further said that the inverted commas character is not needed in the URL - it will work perfectly well without them, which I have tried and confirmed:

Additionally, they said the use of the inverted commas character code (") in the URL works too, which it does:

Eric, any chance of changing the way the links are rendered in the emails?

The quotes have been removed.

Eric,

I confirm that this has also fixed the broken hyperlink when accessing from my Yahoo webmail. I had just assumed it was a problem specific to Yahoo and didn't mention it. Thanks for bringing it up Peter!
