KITS versus Configurator

Dear list,

As soon as a SO order is entered for a particular product, i want automatically 1 or more text lines to be added as well as the stock line.

I am testing a bit with the manufacturing configurator which looks perfect. Question: could i use/misuse the configurator for Sales purpose only ? If so, how ???

Second question, what is the main difference between KIT processing and Configurator ? Could i also automatically attach non stock items via KIT processing, in other words the BOM ?

If all you are wanting to do is add a line or two when you order a
particular item, I would stay away from the configurator. The setup and
maintenance would be huge. Configurator is really used for a make to order
item, so the BOM would be created based upon how you answer each segment.

A kit item is a non-stock item that is made up of several end items. You
actually create a BOM for these and can offer options, and have standard
items as well. An example would be a fruit basket where you get 5 oranges,
5 apples, and a choice of either white or dark chocolate. Once you have
selected the type of chocolate you want, then it adds the components to the
sales order.

You may also want to look at advanced pricing, you could set up a free goods
adjustment so that every time you order part A, it automatically adds part B
to the order. You do not have to offer part B for Free, you can define the
sales price for part B when it is added.

Devin's comments are spot on. Try using a Kit, if you can, for simplicity. The BOM supports text lines through the component Line Type. Stocking Types are Hard Coded as is the Parent Item Line Type (W) but this shouldn't be an obstacle.
