JDE E1 Project Manufacturing

We will be upgrading from XE to 9.X next year. I have read the documentation on E1 Project Manufacturing and am trying to determine it's true usefulness vs. complexity in a discrete engineer to order environment. It looks like it is a very complicated way to "tag" all child item requirements to an end item. Anyone out there use this and like it? I would love to benchmark it.
