Generating/Storing PDFs in single-byte character set

Does anyone know how to change the PDF generator settings so that PDFs are created using a single-byte character set? We are on E8.12, TR 8.97.0.1, SQL Server 2k5 (unicode), on Windows platform. We are trying to have a document archiving application read and archive the PDFs generated by UBEs out of EnterpriseOne. Currently, the archived documents look like garbage when opened from the archive location. Their product support says that we need to change the PDF generator in E1 to use a single-byte character set rather than a double-byte character set.

Has anyone done this or run into this situation before? Where is it set? This is a fresh installation and I have no recollection of having to set this or seeing it in training.

Thanks, Greg

Just out of curiosity, whose 3rd party archive product are you using that can't read data from a PDF file using the PDF standard? (single byte reliance implied they don't do true PDF compatibility to start with, they just hack the bytes out of the PDF and hope they are in a valid codepage)
