Citrix C: drive is full

Hi All,
My single Citrix server with a 4 gig C: hard drive is now full and causing many fun problems including users not being able to print anything at all. All programs have been moved to the D: drive and as many NT options taken out as possible.
I have cleaned up as much as possible but cannot seem to free up hardly any space before it fills up again. Any ideas where to look for the things that are continuing to fill up this hard drive ?
Also, I was wondering if anyone has ever used the NT compress drive function on a C: drive to free up space. Would this affect JDE or significantly slow down performance ?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Regards,
Dave

Interesting - we run a 4 gig C - partition as well but basically it is just
the OS. All the apps are installed on D.

You should check out your C:\winnt\temp directory as a culprit. Also do a
find for *.log. We had a situation for a while where user profiles weren't
being sourced correctly and their JDE.LOG files were writting to the
C:\winnt directory. Best way to find the prob is just go into Explorer and
right click on each folder and see the properties. Then you can see who is
the biggest and work your way down from there.

Hello,

Do you have a roaming profile on a network server?? If Yes
Check if your Citrix machine does'nt store a local copy of the profile in c:\document&settings.
You can set the option in the group policy, delete copy of roaming profile(or something like that). If that copies of the roaming profile are gone you save a lot af diskspace.

Ronald

A couple of things I can think of right away, go to
you environment variables and change TMP and TEMP to
point to a directory on the D: drive (in win2k right
click on MY Computer, select Advanced/Environment
variables).

Also, in your JDE.INI file make sure that log files
are pointing someplace on the D: drive

Check the printqueue folder also.

Thanks for the response Mike,
Right now it points to %userprofile%\local settings\temp. If I just change it to D:%userprofile%\local\temp will it just create the new user directory in D: ?
And good idea to check on the JDE.INI settings but it was already set that way.
Thanks & regards,
Dave

Hi Ronald,
Yes, at this point my user profiles & their user-specific information are stored on C: and I would like to move them to D: if anyone knows how to do that. I don't have roaming profiles.
Thanks for your idea.

Dave

Re: RE: Citrix C: drive is full

Mark,
Thanks for those ideas, in particular the one about the logs. I was able to free up about 400 mg. by deleting logs generated from symantec virus protection stuff.
I'll be sure to let all of you know what the end conclusion is to this.

Dave

PS: Thanks once again to all of you out there that read and contribute when possible :)

Hi, therte is possible to move the user profiles folders (wich often waste a
lot of disk space) from drive c: to any other drive, take a look at
Microsofts documents "Q214636 How to set the path for the local default user
profile" and "Q214470 How to move the location of a locally cached profile".
I've done this with my citrix server and it works fine.

Hope it helps.

Hey Dave,

Check out this location. At times, Windows OS is not able to delete the temp files (generated from Printing) & all get saved here. They can run into GB's on the long run.

C:\WINNT\system32\spool\PRINTERS

Hopefully you have already solved your problem by now

Nailesh,
This ended up being the problem although not with normal spooled files. It turns out that Websphere, which we run on our Citrix box, creates Shockwave Flash Objects for each user that logs on. Based on an entry in the Registry these Shockwave file are stored in this folder.
I had almost 2GB of Shockwave objects in this directory and I have not found a way to delete them since it seems to prevent users from logging back on to the Citrix server when these files are deleted.
The answer for us was to do a registry hack in the following registry key changing the default drive to D: and moving the folder contents over there.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current ControlSet\Control\Print\Printers
Then simply end & restart the Spooler service (or the Citrix server itself). While I still have 2GB of these Shockwave files out there on my D: drive I simply don't care at this point.

Thank you all for your help !

Regards,
Dave
