Hi. Is there any way to restrict access to RDA.exe on the Tools menu in the OneWorld Explorer menu? This is menu is hortizontal menu on top of the OneWorld Explorer menu.

Thanks.

Because RDA is a executable(.exe) file that resides on the client you cannot lock it out in OneWorld Security. Your choices are:

Remove it from the menu and hope the user isn’t smart enough to know what it is.
Use NT security to restrict the users ability to execute it.

We have locked down the RDA.EXE using External Calls security in the Security Workbench.

Or rename the executable

Yip, Just go into Security workbench (P00950) and use the form exit for
'External Call' security. Type GH9111 in the menu field under unsecured
items and click on Find. Move RDA.EXE from the unsecured section to the
secured section with the run box ticked.

Sign out and in again and you will see Report Design greyed out on the tools
drop down menu.

Hope that helps.

Piece of cake - Security workbench/external security, security type 9..
You can do the same for UTB.

Hi,
Although I haven't played yet with the External Call Security for RDA but maybe it doesn't work when you start RDA.EXE from b7\system\bin32 folder without starting OneWorld (although it also requires a log-in session).

RDA comes up "empty" (without object) when you start it from the menu or outside of OW, so you have to choose New or Open.

Securing "New" selection in RDA:
================================
You can do it easily securing the P1200A "New Report Creation" application.

Securing "Open" selection in RDA:
=================================
It allows to open only checked out objects, so one solution could be to secure the checkout choice for the user in OMW.
Other solution could be to secure one or more Object Librarian and/or Project table. Be cautious choosing the second way and test it because it could have side effects elsewhere in OneWorld.

Please, let us know how did you finally handled this issue.

Re: RE: Access to RDA via Tools Menu

Security type 9 only secures OW objects not .exe.

I have done it for OneWorld menus that have RDA.exe. However since this particular menu doesnot have a menu number it cannot be done with external call security. This menu is not part of OneWorld explorer menu tree. It sits at the top of OneWorld explorer screen.

Re: RE: Access to RDA via Tools Menu

If you read my previous e mail on this matter where i explained the whole
process; the RDA.exe IS on a menu which is GH9111 and the security type is
not '9' - it is '7' (External Call not Exclusive application security).

Hope that helps.

I understand where the report design is located, but external calls security will gray it out. Give it a try it works!

Thank you. I had already locked down RDA.exe in GH9111, but I did not realized that it also locked down RDA.exe in the toolbar.
