an0nemus Member Jan 20, 2004 #2 MSDE is the Microsoft Desktop Engine. It is a streamlined version of SQL Server..think of it like SQL Express. It doesn't include the enterprise manager that comes with SQL Server, and to do a mixed authentication you need to do a reg hack. It comes with Office 2000/XP (I believe).
