Re: RE: AS400 and One World
Here is the problem. The AS/400 was designed to be a closed system and for RPG. That's great for World. OneWorld is a client-server (also implies open system) system. Technically speaking AS/400 was not built for client server world. JDE didn't want to isolate any of their World customers (lots of them) so they decided to have as an option that OW would run on AS/400. My understanding is that IBM in recent years have modified AS/400 to be more client server like. For instance as of B7332, Central Objects can reside on AS/400. (I recommend that Central Objects remain on deployment server for performance reasons. However it must have the latest virus checker. I heard of one site where the deployment server went down because of virus. However they continued to operated because their Central Objects were on AS/400.)
In terms of stability and ease of use (commands and prompting feature), the AS/400 can't be beat.

i would agree with tony, OW doesnt seem to have been coded for the 400. We
have performance problems on most of our as/400 sites, relating to batch
processing in particular. if you need to have the as400 in the equation,
use it as a data-server, and buy a cheap intel box to do the processing (and
package builds)
