Access to local files E9.1, User\'s C:\\ and D:\\

Hey Guys,
Currently we are migrating from XE to 9.1. we are having a challenge in user accessing the local drives. reports which run reading data from user C:\ and D:\. this is managed by citrix currently. we are planning to move out of citrix. if the solution is going to be a shared folder on the network, the security portion has a challenge. Like the other department users should not have access to the finance files. i hope this is a common challenge after upgrade. Please share your experience it will help us get to a solution.

Hi,

9.1 is web-based, so your users won't have any Fat client with c: and d: drives available!

Sreeni,

For the web environment, the reports will have OCM entries so that they run on the enterprise server. Depending on the platform there are ways to set up shared directories with security.

I don't know the technical details, but we have a SUN Solaris (unix) enterprise server, with secured/limited access shared directories, which includes the import directory, which are accessible from our windows desktops via mapped drives. Our reports can access files in the shared directories. For example import files can be placed in the import directory on the enterprise server and a TC can be run to pick up the file and import the data it contains.

Hey Thanks guys,

The security applied is it at user level, or at dept level. if @ dept level, the users can see the files uploaded by other users. For eg : Certain user's have visibility to the cost and certain other users dont have access to view this information. thanks for the response. really helpful indeed.

We are using windows for UBE and BI file servers. planning to create folders, so that files can be placed in and when the reports are run it can read from the CSV and text files on the server. (the users need to copy the files in this folder). But the problem is with the security. For each dept we create folder like AP, AR, Logistics e.t.c. based on the list of users we give security to each folder like AP Users get access to AP folder only. but inside the AP folder the AP Users will have access to delete or update a file of other user's. how can this scenario be handled ? do let me know if you have better stand on this as well.
