Optio Question

Hello List,

I have a question about Optio: our CNC-guy told us we have to tick 'Print Immediate' everytime we submit a batch to invoke Optio, otherwise Optio will not pick up our PDF. This is of course easily forgotten (and seems quite primitive to me). Does anyone know of another solution to invoke Optio to process certain PDF's?
(we are on ERP8)

thanks
Andre

Andre,

Are you talking about printing local or from the server?

If from the server yes you can send print files to Optio after they've been processed by just choosing the "Print" row exit from the Submitted Jobs screen. However for this to work the OPTIO printer MUST have been selected when the job was originally submitted - at least in our environment that's the case. By the way - what is your environment?

Dear Andre,

This is really an Edwards's issue. The print immediate option is available 2
ways. One is to click the box another is a setting in the users JDE.ini
file. The problem is this, Optio Can only process the document when it is
sent as a print job to the server. If you click the box that only works for
that time the report is run. The problem with setting it in the INI file is
that for that machine/User all jobs will print immediately. If the user
forgets to check the box they can always go into submitted jobs and print it
from there.

Please feel free to contact me directly if I can help you any further.

Andre,

Are are restling with the same issue here, so what we are leaning towards is assigning each Option version to the designated optio printer in define default printer section. that way if the user forgets to select the print immediate and did not select the optio printer they can just hit print and the document will print. It eliminates the user having to do the change printer function. It is more work but I think it will serve us better especially since all our users are very new to JDE.

Another thing we found that doing this helps with is if you have a UBE that goes to optio and that UBE submits a sub UBE that does not need to to to optio, by assiging the printer only to the UBE that needs to print eliminates the other blank or useless report from going to optio. I have created a dummy print queue on my server and in JDE that does not point to any printers and set the sub UBE to go to that printer, and therefore not printing blank reports or needless reports because the parent uas submitted with Print immediate. From the tests we have done it seems to be working fine. If you need mire info let me know.
