E1 XE Kernel Settings for Web Performance

Hi all,

Background: iSeries 550 enterprise server running Xe SP23-F1, WebSphere 5.0.2.3 running in a network deployment environment on 2 "beefy" Intel servers (4Gb RAM, 2.6 Ghz Quads)

Can someone give me some guidance on what appropriate Kernel settings should be for good Web performance? I have heard numerous times from other companies that if we increase our Kernels to be 1 kernel per user (not 1 per 10 users) we will get smokin' performance. But I am confused, which kernel, DEF5, DEF6 or DEF7? Our benchmark application is a modified WorkWithWorkOrders where we return 12 columns and 100 rows. Performance is very poor but the users are demanding this much info. My Director has indicated that if we can't get the Web performance running better we'll have to abandon the web. I have tweaked everything except the kernels and I need some guidance.
What I have tweaked:
1. Increased the heap size to 1024 Mb
2. Caching servlets and allowing threads and heap to grow beyond max.
3. Turned off class Garbage collection.
4. Implemented HTTP 2 with compression.
5. Verified matching jt400.jar files everywhere.
6. Done all the share pool recommendations on the iSeries for OneWorld performance.

Thanks in advance, Jay
