In case you've been waiting, TR 9.1.3.3 is now available for download on MOS.

I noticed today that 9.1.3.3 tools release certifies support for MS Hyper-V for E1 servers.

Microsoft Hyper-V Certification begins with Tools Release 9.1.3.3.

The following additional components are certified with Microsoft Hyper-V.

•JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Applications 9.0 and 9.1.
•Oracle Database 11.2.0.3.
•Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.6.0.
•Microsoft Windows Server 2008R2 as a guest OS under Hyper-V 2012.

Anybody going to take that plunge?

Wow...

So if you are running Linux, only Oracle Linux on OVM is supported. If you are running Windows, only Windows Server 2008R2 as a guest OS under Hyper-V 2012 is supported. VMware is still not supported.

Am I reading the certifications correctly? If so, it is an interesting strategy by Oracle.

Certified is different from supported.

VMWare is supported from long time.

Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware virtualized
environments. Oracle Support will assist customers running Oracle products
on VMware in the following manner: Oracle will only provide
support for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or
can be demonstrated not to be as a result of running on VMware.

If a problem is a known Oracle issue, Oracle support will recommend the
appropriate solution on the native OS. If that solution does not work in
the VMware virtualized environment, the customer will be referred to VMware
for support. When the customer can demonstrate that the Oracle solution
does not work when running on the native OS, Oracle will resume support,
including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation if required.

If the problem is determined not to be a known Oracle issue, we will refer
the customer to VMware for support. When the customer can demonstrate
that the issue occurs when running on the native OS, Oracle will resume
support, including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation
if required.

Our development environments are already using Hyper-V with E1 and I'm fairly certain our back end guys are quite happy with it. I was a little hesitant at first when I learned we were using Microsoft virtualization as I am more familiar with VMware but the integration into all things Windows is pretty awesome. I don't even think its that vast a feature disparity between them anymore but that's really outside of my working knowledge.

Is anyone else using this right now?

I thought your comments were very interesting. Our network admin is absolutely against using Hyper-V. I had to remind him today that VMware is not certified.

I think you are misstating that. VMware is neither supported nor certified. It just so happens that there are probably more people using VMware than Hyper-V so you imply that it is supported. My guess is that no customer has ever tried to pursue performance problems with Oracle_JDE on E1 when Oracle-JDE pulled the virtualization card.

So, as Jeremy pointed out, it is an interesting strategy that Oracle only certifies there own virtualization and Hyper-V.

If you have an issue with JDE running on VMWare Oracle will give you support to resolve the issue.

Are you saying that even though Hyper-V is certified, they won't support it?

Are you saying there is a reason why they don't certify VMware?

In looking at the .html file on our Dep Server, it looks like most of the entries for TR 9.1.3.3 are for bug fixes.
