Reporting Tool

Help !

I'm looking for a tool that will take a JDE or AS400 report and allow the
user to strip out all the headings, descriptive text , page numbering, etc.
and place it into a spreadsheet or document format so that they can massage
the numbers or do whatever calcs they like on the resulting data. I know
that eons ago, there used to be such a tool, but the company and/or
software name escapes me...anyone got any ideas ?

Thanks,

Cd

Chris,

using "native" JDE/400 tools it is possible to generate a physical file from DW, WW or Query and a CSV from FASTR. The extra effort needed is stripping out or reformatting the data once imported into the spreadsheet but the base functionality is available free, as it were.

HTH.

We're doing it this way today. Problem is our Excel users are both
impatient and inexperienced when it comes to parsing out the reports,
especially 200 page reports (tedious at best). For smaller reports, this
works fine, and for Query and FASTR reports its not a problem (as we do
produce output-to-file reports)... This involves particularly DW and
custom-written reports that would be too complicated to re-write to produce
an output-to-file for Excel.

Thanks..

Cd

At my previous employment users used Paradox (PC database tool) in association with another product Printq that brought the spool file down to the pc as a text file.

We use this function of WW, DW and FASTR. We use RUMBA as our terminal emulator. RUMBA has a nice file transfer utility. That is how we convert our files to spreadsheets. Client Access also has a file transfer utility, but we haven't used it. You might even be able to FTP the AS400 file down to a PC.

As others have stated , you can get a CSV file from FASTR , and I believe
you can suppress the printing of headings. There is a product called
Monarch for EZ-Pickins from BCD software , I have never tried it , so I
can't vouch for its functionallity or quality, they state in their ad that
you can get a free trial @ www.bcdsoftware.com .

Hi Chris,

We are on JDE 7.3.12 and have been using Compleo from Symtrax. Just run =
the
report and then bring it up in Compleo and you can keep the headings or
delete them. Keep the blank lines. Only bring down certain columns of a
report. You can do multiple reports is one pass of Compleo. Just pick =
up
total lines off a report. Here is there website.

You might want to take a look at a product named Monarch - it will allow you to define templates around a report so that you only extract the data you need and then will convert that into spreadsheet format. It's been a few years since I've used it, so I'm not even sure if they're still around or what their web address is.

BINGO ! Thats exactly the one I was looking for...and they are still
around at http://www.datawatch.com/products/v6_pro.htm

Thanks for your help !

Also, you may want to take a look at S4I express, a very powerful report
distribution tool with a LOT of capabilities built in www.solution400.com we
are nearing the completion of our testing and are about ready to purchase.
They also have a JDE OW specific components for distributing OW PDF's.

I know a tool we used several years back was called Monarch. It would take an AS400 spool file and let you strip and parse the data. I do not know if it is still around though. We use Showcase here to for our reporting.

I have had very much success with a product called Monarch. It strips data from text based report files and creates spreadsheet ready files in many formats.

Re: RE: Reporting Tool

Can anybody give me an idea of the cost of Compleo? It sounds like a real good tool.

Thanks

We have been using EZ-Pickin's & Spool Explorer for several years. Despite
it's funny name the program works very well. Contact BCD at
www.BCDsoftware.com or
