If all the assets you want to change the depreciation starting date for are
going to have the same new starting date you can use world writer to update
the field in the selected file.

I'd normally wait for JDE to get back to me on this but I'm going to the
JDE
convention next week so I need an answer on this today. We're on A7.3 c11
and need to change the depreciation start date on a long list of assets.
The on-screen location for this field is G1211, selection 10, do an <F4> to
see the fold, and it's the Date Depreciation Started field (DSD). Instead
of manually typing these in, can I give a list of asset numbers and start
dates to our programmers and have them update the FLDSD field in the F1202?
I assume the selection criteria would solely be the asset ID, and we'll get
multiple lines based on multiple ledger types and accounts (but not
multiple
years, since all these assets were set up this year). Thanks in advance
for
any help with this.

RE: Changing Date Deprecation Started in F1202

Tim,
Question - have you started depreciation on these assets already? If so
you could have a potential (and I should emphasize "Potential) problem with
making this change. If you go into an asset and then do F14 to look at the
depreciation values, there is a column with the heading M C (1 position
alpha field). That is your method of computation. Based on the code used,
you could potentially miscalculate depreciation on these assets. Now if
these assets all started depreciation in the current fiscal year and all
ledger types have I (inception to date), you would probably be OK (would
want to test if you can to verify). Often though the tax ledger does not
have an I value, since the government will not let you adjust depreciation
from a prior year. So if a code C, but all in the current year, it might
recalculate ok, but I have never tried this.
So, yes, you can have your programmers change the field. The potential
risk is in depreciation calculation errors. Hope this helps some.

RE: Changing Date Deprecation Started in F1202

There was quite a lengthy time lag between when I sent this message to the
listserv and when it actually posted, so by now JDE has replied to me and
I've updated it successfully (so the fixed assets people tell me). Thanks
for anyone who replied.

What was JDE's responce to your question, I am working on fixed assets and
would like to know......if you do not mind.
