Quotations in CSV format

Hi All,

We have developed a report in CSV format which reads F04515OW file. The report has a single column which is F04515OW.APMM.

This column is of string data type. When we open the file in wordpad, the file puts some records as normal, some records in double quotations. But when opened in excel all the records are without any quotations.

Anyone has seen this scenario before. Anyideas why it is writing or opening this way.

Thanks in Advance,
Srired

do the entries with double quotes have embedded commas in the field?

Excel is simply "translating" the csv file into excel cells while wordpad is probably treating it as just a text file which it is.

Hi Jones,

Ya, the file is having some columns in the ouput with comma embedded in it. All these records are shown in double quotes. I tried replacing the comma and the records were showing proper. This solved the issue.

Do we have any other similar characters to take care which might show up later.

Thanks,
Srired
