OUTPUTS - THRO\' Email

Dear JDE List Guys

We require the Report Outputs to be
sent directly thro Email. Is there any Possiblity
directly thro' JDE. Or Is there any software that
integerates with JDE for SUch a type of Output.
Its Critical for us and it will be great if someone
gives a Positive answer.

RE: OUTPUTS - THRO\' Email

We are playing with a product called Creat!form that has an e-mail piece.
It also makes form pretty, does archiving and some other stuff. Their web
site is www.createform.com. The product integrates with JDE style PDF files
nicely.

Udai -

I am not certain of any third party products to do this "seamlessly".

We automate the generation and e-mailing of reports using shell and sql
scripts. I think that is the typical way to get the job done in this case.

Seamless seams to be the keyword here.
If you mean seamless at runtime then this can be achieved with a 3rd party product name 'Create!Print for OneWorld'.
As with all 3rd party products there is an initial set up.

Re: OUTPUTS - THRO\' Email

If all you need is just redirection of output then you could consider the relatively cheap product of "RightFax". All this product needs is to have keywords at the top of your PDF (e.g. <<FAX no = 123457899>>) (well, something like that anyway).
This does meant that you need to change your reports, but any reports that you need to fax or email, will need to be modified anyway.
I believe that RightFax now allows Emailing, Faxinging and Printer Redirection.

One thing we have used on our site is a piece of software known as "I-Point" (previously called Checkpoint until a few months back).

This takes a PDF output from JDE and then reformats is using a template. This output can then be e-mailed, electronically faxed or printed.

From a JDE point of view the I-Point server is simply a printer that it throws the PDF at.

We use this on purchase order transmission. The software can have logic built into it so that the preference is to e-mail but if no address is present in a certain field then the document is faxed etc... We even have various error reports to allow the system administrators to control the process.

The purchase orders are scheduled using crontab (with the runube command). In the parameters of RUNUBE we have set print immediate to yes. In this way the whole process is automated.

Don't know if this solution is overkill for your requirements but it definitely works.

Re: OUTPUTS - THRO\' Email

Thanks a Lot Peter,
We are already having Write fax, which
automatically sends Fax. And we are using write fax
7.2 version. I think it will be possible by version
8.0.
Are people Using WriteFax to send email? Is it Done
Just by stamping the email address On the Report?. If
it works we will be really Lucky.
Should it be integrated with any Mailing Software,
like Exchange or so.
Could you pls give detailed mail on this.

Thanks and Regards
Udai

Re: OUTPUTS - THRO\' Email

THe last time I used RightFax (4 years ago), it only did the faxing and Printing to the Printer attached. But I did see on their Web site a year ago, that the new version would handle Emails, and (from foggy memory) multiple printer redirection.
Best bet is too check out their web site (www.rightfax.com - I think), and see what it says. You may be able to speak to a salespersion and get more low down. I'll be interested to hear the results.
