Has anyone had any experience with a OneWorld session locking up? I have
users with this problem and they receive no errors at all. In most cases we
have to use the task manager on the PC to close the OneWorld session and it
usually occurs after hitting the 'Find' button to display data in a grid.

Yes, I've had that problem.
Usually with UserOverrides corruption (xxxB733.F98950)
Try deleting records for your user/freezing application from
F98950.

Vik,
Does it occurs on a given form (if yes, then please, describe which is it) or on several forms?
Does the form has a personalized format setting (e.g. sequencing)?
Have you made debug.log? Have you investigated the issued SQL statement on Find?
Please, provide us with a little bit more information making us possible to help you. Thanks.

We are running B732.2 SP11.3 (just went live Jan 1) with no ESUs or SARs
applied yet (they're in the works). We have roughly 30 fat clients and 60
on a server set up. We have had fat clients only, locking up with no error
messages displayed. All symptoms indicate users clicking "OK" too quickly
/ before all data could be validated. Example: Purchasing buying a part
with 10 different delivery dates. One line is entered, then copied 9 times.
Dates on each line were adjusted, then user clicked "OK." Often the PC
locks up. When users enter many lines or use the copy function, waiting 30
seconds after last line adjusted solved the problem (so far).

We recently had a related issue, especially in Sales and Purchasing, for fat
clients only. Users performing the same transactions above example,
clicking "OK", getting a PO #. Then upon closing and inquiring, the new PO
was not in the system. HOWEVER, On Receipt records, in Detailed
Availability, were created for the parts. Running the PO Repost eliminated
the erroneous On Receipt numbers - the PO had to be reloaded. This again
was solved by the user waiting "a few seconds" before clicking "OK."

Zoltan,
The problem is not limited to any one area. It seems be occurring with
people that mostly work with sales orders and purchase orders. We have =
not
tried getting logs for the issue yet.

We have been able to duplicate the problem other PC's with the same =
user.
But when another user logs onto the same PC, no problem exists. So it
seems, as others have indicated, that I have a User Override problem. =
We
are going to try and see what happens when we have the next occurrence =
and
"deleting records for your user/freezing application from F98950" as
Sebastian had mentioned. Hopefully this works.

JDE is also recommending that we delete any occurrences of type 'HC' =
records
in the F98950. Any experience with these? They say they are not =
supposed
to be there, but can exists and cause problems.

Thanks
Vik

Re: RE: OneWorld locking up

Vik,

I remember that deleting HC records from F98950 resolved problems for us in the past, unfortunately I already do not remember that on wich releases or releases, sorry. But wait a minute, yes I just catched it in my memory, it was on B7321 and B7331 too.
I suppose, it is almost sure that it will be the resolution for you because other user on same machine can not reproduce the hang up.

But do not forget the other tips for the future, like:
* RAM size and virtual memory size could be also critical
* Too "Quick" users also can cause sometimes problem
* an non-appropriate custom grid format (mainly in sequencing for Find action) also could cause problem

... and at last, sometimes the resolution could be to remove the "Asynchronously" flag in the BSFN calls in the PostButtonClicked event of OK button.

Please, let us know on the List/Forum that did the HC purge from the user override table resolve your problem. Thanks.

HC's can become corrupted when adding service packs. Is that something
you've done recently? There will be no lasting harm by deleting these
records from the Override table, but I wouldn't deter you from making a
backup of the table.

Kevin,

Our last service pack was many months ago, but we have also had this problem
for a while too. So it very well could have been the service pack 11.3
install.

Thanks for the help!

Steve :

OK!
You may be having several different issues :
a) The network is very slow. A very similar situation happened to me
on 10 Mbps networks with collisions and overloaded traffic. After
migrating to a 100 MBps UTP/5 switched network the issue was cured.
b) Problems with Oracle/Unix tuning. Unfortunately it's not my speciality,
but I've seen fivefold performance increases on Oracle installations
after a tuning guru made her magical touches. There are many documents
on Knowledge Garden on these Oracle/HPUX tips and tricks.
c) User Overrides : try DELETE * FROM CRPB733.F98950 (backup that
table before deleting!)
d) Workstations with less than 128 Mb RAM / 384 Mb Swapfile.
e) Oracle release. OneWorld had many painful bugs with Oracle 8.0.4.
I've heard that 8.0.5. and 8.0.6 are much better suited for OneWorld.
f) Map your \\Deployment\B733 to a drive letter on all your workstations
(for example Q:); I've seen that enhances OneWorld APPLs.
g) Try minimizing NetBios - IPX/SPX - NWLink - NetBeui traffic on your
network, NWLink does very sluggish OneWorld installations!

Yours, Sebastian Sajaroff

Re: RE: OneWorld locking up

Vik,

1.) Not only service pack installs can cause HC records in F98950 but user actions too when somebody customize her/his Form and/or Grid (see: Customize and Grid selections under the Preferences menu on the Forms or the menu popped up with right mouse click on the Grid).

2.) We hadn't any problems with purging HC records.

3.) You can use the P98950 User Ovverides Revision application to filter and delete HC records easily.

Good luck,
Zoltán

Hi Sebastian,
There were two very interesting thing for me in your post:

f) Map your \\Deployment\B733 to a drive letter on all your workkstations (for example Q:); I've seen that enhances OneWorld APPLs.

*** Do you know how or why could it enhances OW APPLs? It sounds very interesting.

b) Problems with Oracle/Unix tuning. Unfortunately it's not my speciality, but I've seen fivefold performance increases on Oracle installations after a tuning guru made her magical touches.

*** Hmmm..., a Guru, who is SHE and her touches are magical! Maybe, she is a "Gura", following our friend Adrian's naming convention?
