I think your comment regarding messages to defer the parts list may be a
clue for you. It tells me that whatever is driving MRP for you, sales
orders or forecasts, is not causing enough demand for your work orders. It
is suggesting that the orders be moved out and because of purchase component
lead time, it may not be generating any messages.
Is MRP a new application for you, or is this a problem that has just
started? If this is a new application for you, I would suggest that you run
the bill of material integrity report to ensure that your low level codes
are correct. I would make sure the supply demand inclusion rules are
correct for the work order and sales order statuses you are using.
You mentioned that you generated the work order. Did you see if there are
components? Are the bills of material active - that is do they have a valid
effective from and to dates? What are the stock types for the parent and
components? Are they included in your MRP data selection? Other things to
look at beyond the stock type are the issue type codes. If they are a bulk
issue type and are attached on a work order, there will not be any messages.
Check your order policy code to make sure that they are valid (not an 0).
Check your Planning codes. Are they valid for the MRP generation you
selected? What are your planning fences and message display fences set at?
Did you convert your data or manually enter the Bills of Material? Is the
planning percentage at 100%.

Subject: MRP Components not showing up in messages to order more
I am trying to figure out how to get your component messages to advise on
ordering more components (i.e. purchase orders). What has to be setup to
make this work? I get messages for finished goods work orders and I have
generated them (w/o's), but still no components. All I ever get is messages
to defer parts list. Any help out there ????
