Mfg Costing and Acct sending Material costs to other than A1

Our requirement is to provide a greater level of detail in material costs and usage other than the one provided by the A1 cost type in Manufacturing Costing and Accounting.
Specifically we would like to be able to nominate a Cost Type A3, A4 etc, for various categories of materials.
Has anyone any experience with this requirement and a customisation to achieve same. This would need to extend into Manufacturing Accounting with creating journals for WIP and for variances.

Hi Mickie,

What's your version of E1 ? Since E8.10 and onwards, you can acitivate costing by work centers and then try to have "dummy work center" to collect A3, A4 .... as you want.

Running 8.11SP1. The doco indicates an option exists to create journals by work centre, so your suggestion sounds great.
however my requirements include doing a standard cost rollup with some material costs going to A1 and others to additional A*, probably based on GL Offset.
also for journals it seems to be one or the other - standard cost type or work centre - which means lots of dummy work centres.

We do this by tricking the product cost function. We do this by creating a negative cost component type which zero's out the A1 cost at each level of BOM. We then have more detail cost components (new UDC values) which is a breakdown of the A1. The total in effect is the same as the A1 when rolled up.

do you mean to create a X1 cost type to negate the A1 cost for the special components. and then a X2 cost type to carry the special component cost? I had though about that, but came unstuck on an over/under issue on the special component.
Maybe retrieve issues in w.o. parts list, calculate value of over/under issue, then update actual amount for X1 and X2 in F3102, forcing a variance on these extra costs.

could be worth a test.
