Item Master Hold Codes

We have a product that does not travel well when shipped in large containers, but that occasionally we will ship in a large container to meet a special need. Therefore the item is active in the Item Master. We would like to put the item on HOLD, so that sales cannot enter an order for the item without special processing (eg a manager taking the item off hold for the special order). The only code we can find that accomplishes this is to make the item 'O' obsolete. A lousy choice for a manufactured item. Has anyone come up with a better way to prevent a sales order from being entered for a 'special' item?

One quick thought is to look at preference profiles for product
allocations... set it up on hold each time... and the release to process...

Marc, you bet!

It's rather involved, but you can prevent orders being entered for items by
using the mandatory adjustments feature of Advanced Pricing. It is a little
complicated to explain by email, so I will send you a document that explains
it, off line.

Don't know if you're still looking for solutions to this problem or not, but a "not so obvious" choice would be the Sales Configurator. Even if your product isn't a "configured" type of product, you could use the configurator to give you the functionality you are looking for.

It would be quite simple to set it up so that a password would be required to allow the item to be added to a sales order.

Feel free to contact me offline if you want more information on this.

Don, thanks. We ended up having the P4211 modified to highlight anything
with the endangered item, but I am going to try your solution the next time
this happens.
