German Data protection

Hello List,

We are currently investigating the roll out of OneWorld from the Netherlands to a subsidiary in Germany and we were warned about the 'German data protection', by which German data should not be stored abroad.
Does this sound familiair to anyone? If so, how did you deal with this?

thanks,
Regards,
André Jille

I think they are right in so much as German Law. We have a German company live and there were all sorts of issues with "German Law". You may want to speak to someone like Deliot & Touche as they have experience with this. But there are rules about their data. We have their data held in the UK with no issues, but there are other elements to it.

Sorry I cant be of more help.

The German law is meant to protect information - not prevent information - about German citizens being stored abroad. If the information is "delicate" (typically financial institutions have delicate information), you should indeed contact knowledgeable people in Germany (Deloitte & Touche has a service called ERS - Enterprise Risk Services for example).

Hiya

We are working a Euorpean project which will include germany. As long as the data is held within the company (AS/400 in the UK for example) it doesn't matter where it is stored.

You cannot, however, use third party data resources, or divulge any german related infomation externally as this breaks the law.
