Deleting Update Packages

My deployment server (NT) is getting loaded. I want to delete all the update packages I have built. 10 Dv packages, 15 CRP Packages, and 25 Prod packages. I have re-compressed my parent packages. Can I safely delete all the Update packages for each environment without causing a major failure?

Hi Ed.
Once you have recompressed the parent packages for each environment,
then you can "supposedly" delete the update packages.
However, be advised that the compress has failed at other client sites in
the past.
I would strongly recommend that you load a new fat client with the
recompressed parent packages
just to test the changes that were deployed to each environment.
Having done that, then yes.
Recompressing Parents and removal of update packages is just good Package
Management.

Ed,

You can, however I might suggest you build a full package for each
environment before you delete the updates for that particular environment.

To minimize the space needed you might do something like this:

1. Build full DV
2. Delete all previous updates for DV
3. Build full PY
4. Delete all previous updates for PY
5. Build full PD
6. Delete all previous updates for PD

If you have the space, I might consider keeping the two most recent fulls
for each environment as a precaution.

Thanks,
James

We were told by JDE that once a full package is built, update packages could be deleted, though you would want to do a backup in case something happens.

If I were you, I would call and log a call with JDE and ask them the question yourself. That way you could put a name, time, and date so they hold the gun if something goes wrong. Which I don't believe will happen.
