Changes to the UDC\'s and its potential impact

Someone in the application team has made changes to the UDC for freight codes

SYTEM: 42
PRODUCT: FR

WAS BEING USED: RPS
IS NOW IN USE: RG

Question: If I deleted the old UDC code (RPS), what is the impact ? Is this going to cause problems. If I deleted it, what happens to the existing records that has the (RPS) code. It was recommended that we SQL existing the records from (RPS) to (RG).

Basically, the client wants to use the (RG) code, the reason they wish to delete the old code (RPS) is because people continue to select it by accident and they forget to use the new code (RG). The new code has been in use for about a month so the records have the old and the new codes.

All feedback is appreciated.

Re: Changes to the UDC\'s and its potential impact

I went through a change similar to this. What will happen if you delete
the old UDC is that you will not be able to change any document containing
the old UDC code without also changing that document to the new UDC code.
I would recommend also to use an SQL statement to change all the old UDC
code value you wish to remove to the new UDC value. Its just cleaner that
way and you do not have history with two codes. Hope this helped.

Instead of deleting why don't you set up row security to hide that code code from everyone then add the RG code and see the impact. You will still have to change the existing records because no one will be able to see them.

Cleola,

I am also working with JDE on this, and I just spoke with them. According to them, its OK to delete the old UDC, so long I SQL the old value out from the tranactional tables and replace it with the newer value. Once we've done that, it should be OK. They are looking into which tables are impacted.

thanks,
Jay
