Just like everywhere else they are available if you wish to 'catagorize' your projects deeper than what you do currently. This helps especially if you do any type of reporting and wanted a list of all projects that are major mods versus minor mods (you would obviously have to set up one of the category codes to accommodate this). I do not believe that there is currently any default logic associated with the category codes.
