Can not define E1 files in RPG

It has been while since I used RPG program with JDE files. I am writing a RPG program in which I am using JDE file. Alpha field in the file are showing as Graphic fields in RPG. I know from my previous experience in RPG you need to define a control file along with data file, am i right? Please let me know who to write RPG program over JDE file E1 version 8.11. If someone can send me a sample code that be great.
