The promised AS/400 specs for the 4-5 hour package building...
iSeries 830
V5R2
OW XE Update 5, SP 20
4 Processors
8GB Memory
AS/400 and Deployment server on GB Switch
ODBC's on Deployment server modified for Central Objects
Server package build JobQ is triple threaded
Modifications made per document available from GSS to eliminate spec
transfer to AS/400 of unneeded GBR specs (i.e. if it doesn't ever run on
the server, don't transfer it)
The last change is a feature that will be incorporated in ERP 9 and
later, but you can get the document from GSS to make the changes
manually.
They also pretty much don't have any other network traffic or other
AS/400 activity during package builds, which I'm sure adds to some of the
speed.
We are currently building full packages in production that take 4 hours
and 30 to 40 minutes, and full packages in PY in a tad under 5 hours.
