Applying Service Pack

Since I've been thrown into the CNC role, we haven't applied any service packs. I was wondering if you can provide me with any gotchas that you've experienced.

We are looking to move from 14 to either 17, 17.1 or 18. This is not set in stone as of yet, but it is strongly being suggested and considered.

TIA

Jeremey :

I've upgraded from SP 11.3 (B7332), SP 13 (Xe) and SP 15.1 (B7332 and Xe) to

SP 17.1 + SP 17.1_C1 (Fix) and haven't had any trouble at all.
However, all of these upgrades were done on NT/W2000 + SQL7/SQL2000
installations.
I've read that some guys have had trouble with SP 17.1 licensing (you've got
to call Denver
a get a SPC Code in order to install this SP). Be sure to backup your
Deployment before
proceeding.

Re: RE: Applying Service Pack

Backing up deployment server is an understatement:)

It's good to know you didn't have any problems. We will be attempting a multiple foundation install. I'm going to search the archives of the list for info on that. I recall seeing some threads about it, so hopefully I can find them again:)

Hopefully there won't be much difference btwn W2k, SQL and NT/DB2

Jeremy,

If you don't laready have multiple foundations ans you have space it will be worth yor while to setup also when you install a new SP make sure you re-link your business functions. I have fount that in asn AS/400 env if you don't do that issues can arise; also your noemal port-test etc.

It's a two step process, updating the AS400 and the deployment server.
The last one we did was SP16.1. One the AS400 instructions we always
got a warning on the step near the end where it says 'Replace objects in
the IFS directory' saying something like 280 objects restored, 1 not
restored. We re-issued the command with *ALL ALWOBJDIF. As mentioned
in a previous post, you have to relink the business functions. For our
full packages it was taking about an hour for each. The deployment
server is pretty straight forward. Just make sure you have all the
prereq SARs and ESUs installed. gm.
