Number of 8.12 installs

Hello,

I am trying to find the number of 8.12 installs that are live or in the process of going live. Does anyone know where I can find this info??

Seriously...not sure if you could get that information. I would imagine that Oracle does not publish their customer list or market impact information. I would think other companies might find that information very usefull.

If you do find it, be sure to post it. I need to make a business case for 8.12 myself in the coming weeks.

8.12 is still relatively new - but there are a number of customers that have already gone live on it. Its still a "handful" right now - and I'm sure that no "LARGE" customer has gone live on 8.12 yet since those implementations take significant time.

What specifically are you looking for ? Just interested in numbers ? Since 8.9, 8.10, 8.11 and 8.12 share the same technical foundation - why specifically look for 8.12 customers ? I'd be interested personally in the number of 8.x customers - and I'm sure the total number is significantly lower than XE and ERP 8.0 users still. However, if you do your research on JDEList - you'll see quite a few upgrades going on, so it won't be like that forever !

I am intersted in the same information. We had discussion about 8.11 SP vs 8.12. Some people have expressed concerns about stability of 8.12. John has good point regarding tool release. My understanding is that stability would be more linked with tool release rather than application release. We are interested in 8.12 as it is the latest release and supported for addition 2 years ( till 2014. It would be great if people who are already in 8.12 can share their experience.

I am involved in two 8.12 projects one of which could be considered "large". Go-live for both projects will be in a couple of months.

As for stability I would say it is really tied to tools release as you commented. With 8.96F1 and G1 I have found both Windows and HP/UX to be reliable. (I can't yet speak for other platforms).

I have found the typical issues where something that was fixed by ESU in the previous release has not yet been fixed in 8.12. At some point the code branches and things that are discovered and fixed in 8.11 are passed on to the group working with the 8.12 code base. Inevitably things get missed and these fixes don't make it into the 8.12 code right away. I would definitely apply Update 1 for 8.12 to get the benefit of all the fixes through December 2006.

The switch to XML specs has had some negative effects. Package builds take longer and more physical disk space is required on the deployment server to accommodate the packages. The actual size of the Central Objects tables is smaller due to the XML specs being compressed but for some crazy reason two identical copies of package specs stored in MSDE database files on the deployment server. I plan to log a call on this and probably a SAR. I have compared the files and they are binary identical to each other. The second copy appears to be used for the server package build phase. This is an inexcusable waste of disk space.

Another issue related to XML is the overhead required when launching UBE's. Since each UBE reads it specs from the package tables in Central Objects there is an overhead that did not exist in 8.11. This hasn't been published but I have discussed it with some Oracle field consultants and it has been acknowledge that short, hi-frequency reports will be impacted as compared to 8.12. I suspect this may push people to use subsystem jobs to get the throughput for things like picklist and delivery notes when previously they could avoid having to use them. On the plus side I would think that the XML specs coming from the database will have eliminated TAM locking issues that we saw in previous releases.

Other than the spec related differences I mentioned I have not run into any specific technical issues with 8.12. I will post additional findings if I run into something.

we are now in the first steps.

we just have the deployment, enterprise and jas server installed and ps812 up and running.

Next week we plan to upgrade our DV7333 environment.

This is our first upgrade, thus we are going slow and verifying every step.
 
I'm currently working on 3 World to 8.12 migrations and 1 net new 8.12 install. Not really any issues except as Justin mentioned......packages, builds and deployments.

Actually the biggest increase in time is if you actually want to do a Web Generation for all objects instead of doing the auto discovery. Wow I won't even publish the increase in time for this one.

Also creating new environments with custom path codes are a big pain. I've had to do this about 15 times so far and it's a much longer and tedious process.

Other than that 8.12 has been very stable.

The main reason I was looking for this information is that it was my understanding that some of the new features available in 8.96 tolls release are only available to 8.12 installs, mainly Multi-threaded kernels and XML specs.. Is this true, or is this just some sort of merketing ploy by Oracle??

Multi-threaded call objects kernels are available from 8.11SP1 and 8.95 foundation.

XML specs are an 8.12 only feature. As far as I know that is the only 8.96 tools feature that requires 8.12 as 8.12 is the only codebase that they converted to the XML spec format.

Have the Oracle sales mob mentioned any other specific 8.96 functionality to you that requires 8.12?
 
This is true. Here are the release notes for 8.96 and the document is riddled with "Note. This feature is supported only with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Applications 8.12 and later releases."

Hello All

I am trying to do an Xe to 812 upgrade on iSeries platform V5R4 and cannot get the JAS web client working completely.

I get an obscure error message in jderoot log which is next to useless - except for fact it says it cannot build a user session and fails right after trying to do a LeftJustifyUDCValue call

The symptoms are that the FIND button is missing and exit bar options and input fields are grayed out.

There is a known issue on KG this saying that JAS cannot find security server or the server in general but I have verified server setup

I can sign into Windows client fine and and run reports on server with security server on.

I am going to reinstall the JAS JPY812 instance but was curious if anyone else had such issues.

Also, also, FYI platform pack failed on our system because it said it could not find JDEOW but it was there so we did not have a PY812 and PY812FA lib and files so had to build a package.

I am working on Oneworld Xe...from couple of years.
Now I wanted to update my skills on 8.12.
I have installed 8.12 on windows M/c. I have some doubts in the following.
Installing Web development client.
As per the document what I understand(assume) was.
1.Install oracle client on work stan
2.Insrall a fat client as in Xe.
3.Build web development package and deploy to the fat client.
Is this procedure is correcr....is any thing is missimg....pl clarify.

B. I use to apply ESU...amd ASU using....ESU ASU update applications....how to ...carry out the same...using E1 change assistant....???? please give steps.
can...amybody guide me on these.
