generate PO automatically

Anybody knows how to generate PO automatically when Sales Orders are entered and no stock is available, without using the planning module?
We have some products that we only commercialize so we want to generate the PO directly from the SO but have not the planning module working.

Line Type "W" will create a Work Order. The only way to create a PO out of that is with Subcontract in the R31410 but this won't be for the same Part Number. You will also need the Manufacturing module and setup.....

The nearest thing is a Transfer Order. Enter your Sales Order as a Transfer Order.

Have you tried line type "D" - direct ship line type? This should create a PO for the item on the SO.
