Time out value for citrix users

We are currently looking for a time limit to set for our citrix users. In World we have the system value set to 15 minutes before the user is signed off. Is there value or a setting that we can set to have the users logged off after a certain time period of inactivity?

On 1.8 use the connection configuration/ ica-tcp/ advance button. =
Change
the time in the idle section to 15 for 15 minutes.=20

Yes there is a setting for this. We have ours set for 4 hours. Where you set it depends on what version of Citrix you are using... 1.8, XP. I'm not a Citrix Admin, so somebody else will have to supply specifics after you supply your Citrix version.

Another thing which affects us but may or may not affect you is that we
are running a VPN between many of our users and our JDE servers. The
firewall responsible for the VPN also has a timeout setting. We had to
set that timeout to 1 hour of inactivity for the sake of our firewall
because we'd have to add memory to it if we wanted to keep more
connections active for longer. Seems it keeps track of the active
connections running over the firewall and 1 hour seemed to be about the
max given current hardware limitations on the firewalls.

For a while, we were getting users complaining about being disconnected
which puzzled us at first because we hadn't set a Citrix timeout.
Turned out, as you might suspect, that the firewall timeout was kicking
the users off, not Citrix. We just set the Citrix timeout to a couple
of minutes less than the firewall timeout.

Just a thought...

I am not sure what version of citrix we are running. where can I check?

When logging into the Citrix server desktop, you should get a splash screen that tells you, for instance, Citrix Metaframe XP.

We are running MetaFrame Version 1.80 SP3. Open your Citrix Connection Configuration. Then double click on your connection configuration. Ours is ICA-TPC. Then click on Advance. Here is were you set your Timeout. Joy

Where is the Citrix Connection Configuration? We are using a Farm set up to
control what two servers the users log into.

I don't remember all of the particulars, but JDE does NOT like feature release 1. You should go ahead and upgrade to feature release 2.

Thanks for all the help, I changed the idle setting to 30 minutes and I currently testing this now.

Joy,

Is this an "inactivity timeout" or a flat value that will close the connection after the specified time? In World (on an AS400) it is based on inactivity. It could cause some real problems if you are just logged off after "X" minutes.

It's an Idle setting. We have both the INI file and the Citrix configured for 255 mins.

Joy,

I set the idle time to 30 minutes on our server but the users do not get
disconnected. Is there something else I need to change?
