Year End Processing

Hi, looking for any issues discovered about Year End Processing, with W-2's and 1099's. Is it common practice to apply the Year End updates to the Production environment, or an alternate environment?

Any tips/suggestions/ideas would be appreciated.

TIA,

I have found that YE, 1099, W2 is pretty stable in the past. At this late
date, you may have no alternative as you have a little over a month for the
production of the statements.

It all centers around how much you have customized. I would ALWAYS install
into an alternate environment if there is custom code to see how the data
reacts to the JDE updates.

Good luck.

Colette,

We apply the updates to production environment. I am not saying that is a good
way or the right way. That's has just been our practice. As a matter of fact,
we did the 2001 update yesterday and have had no problems (yet).

Our motto has always been "better safe than sorry." We have always =
done
updates to our test environment first. We have encountered problems =
from
time to time, and going through the process in a test environment first
gives you the opportunity to catch any bugs before production data has =
been
impacted. In giving the payroll personnel a trial run, it also helps =
smooth
out the actual production processes. You'll also have time to apply =
any
necessary SARs that may be issued after the year-end tape is produced. =
Good
luck to you!

It is always best to apply the updates to your test environment first. JDE
has been known to make
a few mistakes. JDE offers year end processing classes, this may not be
helpful at this late date, but for future ref.

I had an earlier post that I have quoted below:
"For those already not aware, both the W-2 and 1099 downloadable updates are on the KG now. BEWARE of the instructions on the 1099 update! They tell you at one point to delete ZJDE0001 from form P03103 (A/R Cash Receipts) and copy it back in from the control files they send you. There is absolutely no need to do this and if you use A/R, you will lose all your processing options that you have set up. JDE said they will be removing it from the instructions soon."

I have had another "problem" come up that I logged with JDE but I'm getting the "working as designed" response. In running the A/P Method, the Preview Media Report is reporting every entity without a Legal Name (a type T code in Who's Who) with a "Invalid Tax ID Fmt-WARNING" error on the report. We have never gotten this error in the past and even if an error is going to print, this one is horribly misleading. I've asked them to verify this (in my opinion) erroneous error and I've told the AP folks to just ignore it so they can move on.

Thanks so much for your continued updates to this; I am sure it helps more

There seems to be quite a few messages with no threads, could we get the

Just an observation on 1099's this year. As always, we have had to adjust the lines and columns to print correctly (usually just up/down 1 line or over 1 column) and this year was no different. But... I found a couple of individual fields that had to be moved IN ADDITION to the adjustments. The top form payee name(s) is high by one line compared to the bottom form. And one of the box positions was 1 character off compared to the same box elsewhere on the same form (I can't remember which but I think it was box 7). Anyone else notice this?

You can do the line and column adjustments with JDE's little program but only way I know to fix the other problems is with SEU on the DDS print file itself.

Thank you very much !!! I was just going through this with JDE. But
they kept saying it's my printer. They said they had no other calls on
it, so I just stuck the thing in my test and changed it.

This problem has been identified and addressed. The MISC form was
reformatted this year. The Payee name is off by 1 line on the 2nd form
(forms are 2/page). However, all the information still fits. It just does
not print in the exact same positions as the top form. SAR # 5713309 fixes
this problem. There is a code change document available on the Knowledge
Garden(r).
