Upgrade from Xe to 8.10 and to 8.11

We are planning to upgrade from OW Xe to 8.10 than to 8.11 in the near future.
What kind of technical training (CNC /SYSTEM Admin) one has to take for this upgrade? What about Application Functionality change – is there a lot of changes which we need to be concerned about in 8.10?

Any help would be appreciated.

We are on Xe on AS400
SP23_K1 and 98 % Citrix clients in Production.

It's a good idea to attend Upgrade workshops, you can
find them at www.oracle.com, click on Education link
(below-left), then look for the JDEdwards EnterpriseOne
courses on the scrolling list.

Note : Upgrade workshops are tought on Windows, not on
iSeries; even if both platforms have common strategies
and procedures during the upgrade operation, there are
some tricks and traps that are specifical to the OS+DBMS.

There are a few admin differences between Xe and E810,
like System Users and Roles, but they're not so difficult
to learn if you are an Xe CNC.

Development Tools on E810 are almost the same than those
on Xe; however I don't know about functional differences
between both releases.

I believe you can upgrade from XE to 8.11. Why are you doing two upgrades?

Yes, you are correct we can do the upgrade from Xe to 8.11. At this stage i am doing some investigation so we may just go straight to 8.11. I believe that technically speaking you can still be on a client server environment in 8.10 and move to full web clients.

Hi,

I've recently managed an upgrade project from Xe to 8.10 (customer required fat client access, could not go full web).

We've had some bumps in the proccess. I suggest paying special attention to all things UNICODE, database conversions, etc.

But all in all, they don't change much. As mentioned before here, security (roles) is different and might raise some issues with users.

On 8.10, you can have traditional Citrix clients as well as Web clients. On 8.11, your clients are all Web.
