SQL Access to Fix any application Issue

Can someone highlight few application issues where you have to have SQL Query access to fix the data issue?

Here is one example: Change the G/L date on an un-posted transaction. Most JDE applications (G/L, A/P, A/R) disable the G/L date and there is no way to change it once it is entered.

We use it to mass update item / equipment / fixed assets / category codes, descriptions (hundreds at a time).
We also copy configuration tables from PY to DV, and later to PD, when going live on new module implementation such as Job Cost and Transportation.
