Service Pack Testing

When applying a service pack, how much and what type of testing is generally done, if any?

I test all the applications that I can. I had a lot of surprises applying a SP.

We test all of our heavy hitters: SO Entry, WO Entry, PO Entry, G/L Posting, MRP, Cost Rollup, etc. Plus we test our reports, especially ones we have to run up on the server and then send the output to Optio for processing.

I believe that any document output package (Optio, FormScape, etc.) may have sensitivity to Service Packs, since Service Packs can change how .pdf files get generated and/or formatted.

Basically, when in doubt, test, test, test!

Also, make sure you test any JDE approved partner software. We found that service packs can render other software inoperable because they were not informed of changes. On JDE...test test test....treat a service pack like an ESU or Update.

we have just looked at installing sp21 and found that no matter how much before work you do you need to treat it as if it where an esu or an update .
